Fun Facts About March

 

In ancient Roman times, the year had only 10 months and March was the first month of the year  — Happy New Year!

 

March is named for the Roman god of war, Mars.

 

March’s birthstone is the aquamarine which is a blue-green gemstone and is supposed to represent youth, health and hope.

 

March’s flower is the daffodil.

 

If you’re a college hoops fan, March Madness runs from March 14 to April 3rd this year.

 

On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made the first-ever phone call to his assistant and said, “Mr. Watson, come here.  I want to see you.”

 

The popular social media outlet, Twitter, was launched on March 21, 2006 by founder, Jack Dorsey, who posted the very first tweet, “just setting up my twttr.”

 

The Peace Corps was founded on March 1, 1961.

 

March 20th marks the spring equinox and the beginning of Spring!
